Gettysburg
A key battle of the American Civil war, Gettysburg was one of the bloodiest batles in our history. The war was balanced, and a major win from either forces was crucial to winning the war. General Lee in the South had a few major victories in a row, and decided that if they were to force the Union to surrender, he needed to take his army onto the deep North, and earn a major victory there.
He chose to go to Gettysburg, Pennsylvania on the last day of June. He took with him the Army of Northern Virginia. Lee's plan was to invade Pennsylvania, and do as much damage as possible. Lee was only expecting the county militia, and at the most, the state militia.
What he didn't know, is that the Union got word of his invasion, and met him with General Meade's Army of the Patomac. the battle began on July 1, 1863, and lasted 3 days.
